The Relationship Between Parental Verbal Abuse Behavior and Psychosocial Development of School-Age Children

Background: One of the problem phenomena that still occurs in school-age children is verbal abuse, violence harms physically and verbally. Children who get abuse will generally imitate same things they receive from their parents. This research aimed to analyze correlation between parental behavior psychosocial development children. Method: used a correlational design with cross-sectional approach. The population was 40 (11-12 years) at MI Miftahul Huda Jatisari, sample 36 respondents obtained purposive sampling technique. Data collection independent variable Korean Verbal Abuse Questionnaire (K-VAQ) modification dependent variables children's questionnaires. Results: almost (69.4%) received severe most (63.9%) had poor development. statistical test results Spearman Rho p-value 0.013 (p-value < α), then H1 accepted R = 0.408, which means strength relations. coefficient positive, including direct correlation, meaning more parents increasingly lacked Conclusion: Psychosocial influenced by factors parents' educating Parents' mistakes responding scolding/blaming can cause feel ashamed worthless. It hoped should not verbally because it lead inhibits or child themselves.
